São Paulo, September 26, 2024 – Shopee Brazil and Sebrae have announced a new partnership aimed at supporting small businesses in Brazil’s digital marketplace. The agreement was signed at Sebrae’s headquarters in São Paulo, with key officials from both organizations in attendance, including Marcio França, Minister of Entrepreneurship, Microenterprise and Small Business of Brazil, Alvin Tan, Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore; Nelson Hervey Costa, CEO of Sebrae-SP, Bruno Quick, Technical Director of Sebrae Nacional, and Luciana Hachmann, Head of Government Relations at Shopee Brazil.
The collaboration seeks to provide Brazilian small business owners with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate online sales effectively, with a focus on sustainability and competitiveness. Over the next two years, Sebrae and Shopee will offer a range of online training programs, workshops, and mentoring designed to help businesses improve their presence and performance on the Shopee platform.
Bruno Quick, Technical Director of Sebrae, explained the initiative’s purpose: “We aim to help small businesses enter the online marketplace efficiently and ensure their long-term sustainability. Marketplaces offer significant opportunities for small businesses to reach new customers, and we are providing the resources needed for their success.”
Luciana Hachmann, Head of Government Relations at Shopee Brazil, highlighted the role of the partnership in supporting local entrepreneurs: “This collaboration with Sebrae reinforces our commitment to Brazil and the growth of local ecommerce. We are focused on helping Brazilian entrepreneurs connect with consumers and providing them with the tools to expand their businesses. Through this partnership, we aim to extend our support and training initiatives to even more regions of Brazil.”
Marcio França, Minister of Entrepreneurship, Microenterprise and Small Business of Brazil, also commented on the significance of the partnership: “This agreement is important not only within Mercosur but also globally. It reflects the importance of the trade relationship with Singapore and the continued growth of international collaboration.”
The partnership will provide small businesses with free access to training for online sales, along with specialized workshops and mentoring. Businesses will also have the opportunity to gain increased visibility on the Shopee platform, helping them to enhance their sales potential.
Meanwhile, Shopee’s presence in Brazil continues to grow, with more than 3 million registered Brazilian sellers on the platform, who account for 90% of Shopee’s sales in the country. According to a recent survey, 1 in 3 local sellers found their first opportunity to sell online through Shopee, and 40% of these sellers expanded their businesses after joining the platform. Additionally, Shopee has created employment opportunities for 1.3 million people in Brazil, with 25% of this workforce dedicated to supporting sales on the platform.
This collaboration is expected to contribute to the ongoing development of Brazil’s digital economy, providing small businesses with the tools and knowledge necessary to succeed in the competitive ecommerce sector.
